Bereavement

Found out last night my Grandpa has died.

I thought I was having a bad week having lost my job, found the Christmas tree was broken and been dealing with DS who can not shake his ear infection. Oh and the charity event I'm organising is falling apart.

But then I hear this and all that just seems pathetic and insignificant.

The funeral is on Thursday and I can't go.

We are on the south east coast so as far away as you could get really.

He died on Friday but no-one could find my Dads nuber to call him and let him know so he found out Monday night and he rang me and told me yesterday. So the timescale for the funeral is about normal.

Is it your dad's dad????

How could nobody have contact with him?

Sorry, but I would try my very best to get to the funeral of my grandad.

Yes it was my Dad's dad , he doesn't really speak to his brothers so they didn't have his number. They m,ust have had to go through my Grandpas stuff to find it.

It really is a very situation.

I know you're not sat there thinking that! I never said you were... all I said was that I would try my very best. But hey, we're all different....

I won't butt in anymore, sorry for your loss.

My Dad is going by the way, he lives in Nottingham, so its easy for him to just jump on the coach and even though he hasn't spoke to his brothers for nearly 20 years one of them has offered to put him up which is nice.

Sorry firefly it just sounded like you were critisizing me, I am understandably touchy.

To go I would have to get the coach up as DH can't get anytime off work as he has just started so we would be pushing our luck to ask. So the coach would cost for a return to Newcastle at least £60 I suspect (we have approx £2 between us) I would also have to take DS (12 months) and I don't know if their would be a charge for him. I presume if he sat on my knee he would be free.

The coach would leave Hastings at about 8am. arrives in London at approx 11am, then 2hr wait for connecting coach. Leave London at 1pm and arrive in Newcastle at approx 7-8pm.
Then we would have to pay for 2 nights at a travel lodge or similar.

So I found out at 7pm last night, we would have had to leave this morning at 8am to get there for the funeral tomorrow.

Oh no

I don't know if this is any help, but I had to miss my gran's funeral (stomach upset - collapsed that morning when I was desperately convincing myself I was fine)... yes, it hurt, and I shed a lot of tears over that (as well as actually losing her).

18 months on, and I now just miss her - I don't think that missing the funeral is with me anymore iyswim

Thanks flame, I feel really guilty about not being there for my Dad aswell. But dh and I said last night we will borrow the money to drive to Nottingham during Christmas week just so that we can see him which will be nice.

I supopose the thing I am most fuming about is that my stepmum isn't going with him, and she drives
