Feeling lost

I'm 31 weeks pregnant and my dad died suddenly last Thursday. Went back to work yesterday because I felt pressured into it by the school I work at. I'm a teacher. But I've not slept for the last 4 nights because, coupled with the usual pregnancy sleep issues, loosing my dad has just knocked me for six. Ended up calling in sick again today. I seem to do nothing but cry constantly and feel completely lost and helpless. It sounds selfish but all I keep thinking of is the fact that he's never going to see his grandchild or that this baby will never know how amazing my dad was. I'm trying to be strong for my mum's sake but I'm really struggling. Just don't know what to do.

Sorry for your loss. I would get to a GP and ask him to sign you off work. Hopefully for the rest of the pregnancy - you must only have a few weeks left before Mat Leave anyway. Tell him you aren't sleeping etc. That will get the work situ out of the way and dealt with. Then you can focus on your Mum and all other things that need to get done. Your baby will know how great your Dad was, because you will talk about him all the time. Good luck xx

So sorry to hard about your df can't imagine how it must feel. Agree with above poster I'm sure you could get GP to sign up off, I can't imagine how you are managing to work at th moment especially in teaching.

You need to look after yourself it's definatley not selfish to think about what your DC will miss. My lovely mum in law died suddenly just before Christmas, she was 62 and my biggest concern was the loss of her to my DC. It's how life should be and when it's taken away like that it all feels so wrong. A big part of your life has changed forever and you are about to embark on another life changing event.

The sadness does not last forever, you don't get over this loss, you live with it and in the future you will live the happy times and tell your DC about your df their dgf, there will be tears but it does get easier.

I hope each day feels a little easier go with whatever feels right for you.

Thanks both. My DH made me go to the docs this afternoon and they have signed me off for 2 weeks which is a relief. Will have a week back at school to sort out stuff before mat leave so it's worked out ok. Lilybensmum1 lol you should see the spelling errors from my class. Yours are nothing in comparison!

I'm glad your dh did that you need it, regards to my spellings what age do you teach? As a nurse I really must do better. Here is to a brighter future for you.
