Deleted text messages about darling father

My dad died in November after spending several weeks in hospital. I remember at the time sending messages to my husband reporting on how he was doing. I also sent DH a msg to say that he had died (It was the early hours of the morning, DH was at home with our young daughter and I didn't want the phone to wake her up).

I really felt the need to read these texts this morning, but I must have deleted them at some point :'( The thing is, I very rarely delete anything, so I'm rather perplexed. I don't remember when I deleted them.

I know the messages won't bring my dad back, but I feel so upset this morning. The time when he was in hospital was a blur and I guess I feel the need to see what I had written at the time.

I'm so sorry for your loss brilliantine. flowers

Would your DH still have the messages?

Thanks alligator. It occurred to me after I wrote this that I need to check with DH. He's the complete opposite of me though and tends to delete texts/emails etc. He's away this w/e, but will ask him to check when he's home.

I had a similar experience. I don't know what kind of phone you have but if it's an iPhone, try sending a text to your DH and you may find previously sent messages become visible.

I hope he had Brilliantine.
Do you have a backup of your phone. I know iPhones keep backups of texts but I'm not very technical. Can you go to a Genius Bar (or Android equivalent if one exists) for advice?

I lent my old phone to someone a few months after my dads death, not realising that all the stored texts on there would be lost that way. All the texts I had from my dad. The problem with the electronic communication age I suppose, it's so easy to just wipe words out.

I understand how upsetting this must have been. Could anyone else have deleted them? My phone was smashed up a few months ago and I had texts on there I wanted to keep. It's rubbish x

I did exactly the same thing.

I lost a dear friend in a climbing accident last year. I had text him to ask how the climbing was going and assumed when he didn't reply that he had no signal. THe next morning I found out he was dead.

I was angry and upset and deleted the message from my phone, not realising it would delete all the messages we'd ever sent. I wish I had not know. I spent £50 on some software I found online that said it could retrieve deleted messages but it didn't work.

I have come to terms with it now but I do understand.
