1 Year Memorial BBQ - tribute ideas?

Our dear friend died last August very suddenly and unexpectedly from diabetes at the age of 26. We are having a BBQ/Hog Roast with lots of his friends and family to mark the occasion and to celebrate his life. Can anyone think of any ideas of something we can do as a tribute? All I can think of is sky lanterns but if it is windy that idea will have to go out the window. I don't want it to be a sad occasion but would be nice to do something so it is not just a 'party'.

Or give everyone a sapling to plant at home, or some forget me not seeds

Sorry to hear about your friend Sad

Avoid sky lanterns if you can - they have a nasty habit of setting fire to houses, fields etc a few miles away (there have already been several in the news this year) and the wires or bamboo bits that make the frames cane be lethal if animals inadvertently eat them.

The forget me not seeds sound a nice idea - or did he have a favourite spot that you could club together for a seat in his memory? Little photo of your friend in a nice little frame that everybody could have that they could all tuck on a shelf as a long reminder of him? Contact the local diabetes ward at the hospital or diabetes charity and see if you could do anything to help others to not experience what happened to your friend...

Hope the BBQ goes well and is a fitting tribute to your friend.
