i keep thinking it hasn't really happened. I got a phone call from my brother at about 11 am and he said, hang on I'm putting mum on the phone and she said where areyou I've been ringing you all morning, and I said I was on a coach to Birmingham for a trade show. She said oh right, we lost Dad this morning. Apparently it was very sudden so he can't have suffered anything, and i know it's better to go quickly than to linger, but my dad is gone.

I dont know what to say make you feel better, my neighbour lost her husband suddenly last yr, when i went to visit, all her family were in the sitting room reminiscing about the funniest things that the man had done, and it made everyone laugh.

I quite liked it, as i had sobbed a bit before leaving home. was he very old ? Was he ill ?

He was 78. He'd had some heart problems in the past but the hospital had pretty much sent him away with clean bill of health ages ago. So it was not expected at all and there is going to be a post mortem. I was close to my dad, and i'm glad I went to see him last weekend, DS and I spent the day with my family and DS spent quite a bit of time cuddling his grandad. So at least my last time with my dad was a nice happy one and recent, and just last Sunday night I said 'Goodbye dad' and hugged him.
I have told DS (who's 6) and he said 'Well now you haven;t got a daddy I'll be your daddy or Daddy (his father) will be your daddy.'

So sorry about your Dad.

We're not ever grown up enough to cope with any of this. Really sorry. And you were so STUCK, on a coach....

Sorry for your loss SGB & how sweet of your son!

My dh lost his dad completely unexpectedly - he was 58. It's the suddenness that's so hard to process.

He did live a full life. I keep thinking of different memories of him and at least my last one of him is a good one, sitting in the car and talking about buildings (he was an architect) and saying Goodbye dad when he dropped me and DS off at our house.
