hi,
my 9mths old is still not sitting himself up or crawling yet, ive tried leaving him on floor with toys and plenty cushions but he just lies there screaming, he rolls over but thats it. hes not a very content baby and cries all the time when left alone, even if he can still hear me or i have tv on in room. im really begining to worry about his development as ive tried loads of things with no joy. im due my 2nd baby in 3mths and was really hoping he'd be at least trying to walk by then.
please any advise would be welcomed as im sure im cracking up

He's still ever so little, lots of babies aren't sitting up or crawling at 9 months. You can't force him into doing something he's not ready for, and there's no point in letting this upset you. He's just a baby and will develop in his own good time.

dd1 (my lazt little madam) was just rolling at 9 months, wouldnt sit up unlesswe sat her up. by 12months she was commando crawling, she walked at 16months old. dd2 (speedy) walked at 10months. they are all different.

i guess i just worry more because my neice and nephew were both starting to walk at this age and my friends baby is 8ths old and is siting, crawling and pulling himself up already!
is there anything i can do to encourege him? i dont want to feel like im pushing him but he only seems happy when hes sitting in highchair or im carrying him around (which isnt too easy whwn im 28wks preg) this cant be good for his development.

They're all different, comparing your baby with other babies will drive you demented.

Just relax and let him get on with it; there's nothing you can do to push things along. You can try propping him up with pillows, or sitting him up between your legs, but don't get too stressed out if he just flops over.

He'll get there in the end.

Have you tried a door bouncer? Or a baby-walker? You can't put him in them for any length of time, but they'd be another couple of strings to his bow, as it were.

Stillsmiling - not crawling at 9 months would not worry me in the slightest since, as the others have said, each baby develops differently and in fact, my dd didn't move really unti 11 months old.

On the sitting front though - being unable to sit unsupported at 9 months is something I would raise with your GP / HV. As the others have said, it could be nothing. However, it also costs nothing to speak to a GP who, if also unconcerned, will tell you not to worry and therefore allay any fears you do have. On the other hand, they could, if your ds needs it, refer him to a paediatrician to get fully checked over. Again, there could be absolutely nothing wrong..but if you're worried enough to raise this on Mumsnet, then surely your GP or HV is the next place to go for advice.

have you seen this thread stillsmiling?

do you mean he can't get himself up to sitting or can't sit if you sit him down? If it's the former, don't worry, my ds did this about a week before crawling - think they may be connected (?)

thanks everyone,

i did get him a walker but he refuses to move in it so we stopped using it.
if i sit him down he will sit there and play with toys as long as im there to support him as he keeps falling over, but he wont sit himself up. he has been sitting up supported since he was about 5mths.
i'll take a look at that thread thanks carolinamoon.

I cared for a few babes in my nursery who at 9mths were still quite 'floppy' and couldn't sit very. Each one of them worried me and i wondered if there was more to it, and then each one proved me wrong when they finally mastered it by at least a year.

TBH i only used my walker as a sitting still thing, my dd never mastered walking in it (partly cos our house wasn't big enough!) But i found it useful to sit her in it with some toys whilst i needed to cook or make a phone call or something.
