Do teachers wipe bottoms at school ......

...... my DD's start reception in September and are still very reluctant to wipe their own bums.
I'm working on it but not sure if they will be very proficient at this by then. Friends say that teachers don't get involved with this, expecting them to be able to do it themselves by the start of school - surely not . They can't be the only ones like this can they - or do I have to accept they will come home with severely skiddy pants . Lovely in this weather

Skiddy pants I'm afraid! DS2 is at the end of reception now and still sometimes comes home with surprises for me....

They don't do it in (school) Nursery either...I used to be very glad that DS1 and 2 would time it for outside nursery hours!

i was talking to one of my mates about this
and she said that he boy wouldnt wipe his
bum at 5, so she left him in the bathroom
crying on the loo waiting for her to wipe
it for him, and about 45 min later and a
lot of tears, he did it himself and has been
fine ever since.

My SIL reaches reception and she says basically it's an issue of TIME - if she had to check and wipe 30 bottoms every two hours, scrubbing her hands in between, she'd be there all day.

Thanks for your replies. I really must sort this out then and stop doing it for them. The problem is they both eat tons of fruit and their stools are a little, ahem, loose. The couple of times I have let them wipe themselves they've got into a disgusting mess but they have to learn I suppose.

DS1 seemed to adjust his bodyclock so he went in the morning before school Still got occasional skiddy pants though.

my ds1 isnt 2 yet and goes to nursery school in sept. only potty trained since april and will be expected to wipe his own bum
he gies a few times a day too

Absolutely not. I hate dirty pants coming home, but I do remember having a few myself a child so I suppose we have to accept them as part of growing up and learning to do for yourself.

They do at ds1's school, but then they also change nappies (it's an SLD school). Actually the whole toiletting thing was a nightmare when ds1 was in mainstream.

My eldest ds was bulied by an 11 year old when he was in reception. Subsequently, he began messing himself as he was too scared to go to the toilet. While I can understand that the staff can't change he would be sitting in stinking, full of poo pants until I collected him.

I spoke to school nurse abuot this at ds's 5 year check.. nope teachers dont wipe their bums. I still help out tho at home. Thought i might be mollycoddling him but school nurse said perfectly normal to still need a bit of help and usually till about 7.

Ds1 had a pooing accident at school soon after starting in Reception. The staff were great and cleaned him up and gave him clean pants to put on. Generally though the children wipe their own bums at school.

hey, i have to say i can understand that teachers cant as it is too close, but i am amazed that at 7 they cant do it hemselves yet!! ( as someone mentioned to a mum)
not accusing anyone before i have to run for cover!!
my neice bless her was 6 when her periods started though now at 9 she is till playing with dolls and in her play they all wipe themselves and fit their own sany towels bless her!!

i would imagine that aslong as they know how to wipe and do the best thay can then a few faint skidmarks will have to be expected!!
