I would say so, after all is a big open space, completely different than a swimming pool and probably colder. DS hated the sand, we have not yet tried it again, but time will say...

DS2 hated it last year, he wouldn't sit on the sand at all and went nowhere near the sea - really grizzly but this year he loves the sand, gets it everywhere because he lies in it and does angels!! He is slightly worried about the sea but we make silly noises when the sea comes in and he laughs now! He's just 19m old now.

does get better, I think initially they find it very scarey the tide going in and out, plus the water is too cold until they are older.

Was it (cold) UK sea with big splashy waves? Makes me cry too!

Ah, well, it's just the shock of the huge expanse of water then. Yes he will get better when he's older, promise. They always surprise you with what they don't bat an eyelid at and what makes them yell.

Personally I hate the sea. Not scared of it as such, but just dislike the taste more than anything (yuck!). Do you think it may be the salt water?

Dd(9) now loves snorkelling, swimming etc but for many years wouls not stray from the pool - bit of a pain in the Caribbean!!
It seemed o be getting used to the scale of the place. Still won't go in our local sea - Dymchurch. Can't say I blame her...

My then 2.5 yr old was really scared of it, despite all encouragament otherwise. She found the waves tremedously exciting and wanted to be in them, but was scared that they would knock her over. She loves swimming now.
Apparently my sister-in-law's response on her first sight of the sea was, "That bath's too big!".
