What may be our next options for dd2, now 4 and a bit weeks and crippled with silent reflux. We've only been on the above for a few days and know I need to give it longer to work, but are there other medical options that may work?x

Ask your pharmacist. We use somrthing called Colanticon gel but I'm not sure if it's suitable for little ones. The pharmacist might be able to recommend something to try

Agree that you need to give it a few more days to see what the impact really is, but another medical option which you would of course have to discuss with doc is Losec, which works differently to Ranitidine and can also be effective.

Also agree with Christiana's comments plus, remember - minimal handling of your baby after a feed and keep her upright at least 30 mins after a feet. Also raise all surfaces she lies on, including her change mat - folded up towelling nappies or a cushion can work well.

You can also try Tissue Salts no 10, a natural option perfectly safe and are specifically for heartburn.

is she on domperidone? this is a drug which moves the milk through the gut more quickly

DS had it, as well as ranitadine

Gavsicon did nothing but make him constipated

I saw a real difference with DS in around 10 days - like a different baby

agree re keeping everything elevated

use a sling

let her sleep in a carseat for an hour or two during the day so she can rest a bit better

Thanks - from prev posts and babreflux website we literally have tried everything position wise and feed wise are now on Enfamil AR. Gaviscon after 10 days hasnt taken any effect, before or after feed, other than blocking her up. Going back to docs AGAIN today to see if they can prescribe something other than Ranitidine, the acid suppressent. Think they may suggest a blocker like Losec?

DD2 is 18 weeks and we have just started Ranitidine (took ages for GP to take it all seriously/ prescribe something) Gaviscon didn't help at all for us other than severe constipation which created a whole new set of problems and more discomfort/ crying.

We are on day 3 of ranitidine and already there has been slight improvement but I believe it can take several weeks for Ranitidine to be fully effective. I believe as well that they can increase the doseage of ranitidine and start off on the minimum.

I believe another one they can try is Omezaprole (sp???) and that this one works fairly instantly.

Omeprazole is the same thing as Losec - Losec is just the brand name.

Whoops, posted too quickly! Losec takes about 5 days to really work, and its very important to administer it correctly - Freyfreysmum, if you do get it - it is a little pink tablet and you will probably give half in the morning and half in the evening. It must not be crushed, because the active ingredients don't work as well, but dissolve it with a little hot water (an eggcup works well) and then give it with a spoon. You can use a syringe but a lot of the granules get left behind.

I hope the doc had some insights?
