toddler picking at top lip

My DD is 2.2 and has got into a habit of picking at the skin of her top lip. It's usually when she's tired, and seems to have coincided with the arrival of DS 9 weeks ago.

Her lip is looking really sore now and she has complained about it a few times..has anyone got any tips on how I can help her to stop? I've tried distracting her when I notice her doing it, given her a security blanket to hold instead, as well as explaining to her that it will make her lip hurt.

Any ideas very welcome, I don't want her to be in pain!

You probably need to get some antibiotic ointment to clear it up if it's infected and perhaps put her in gloves for a few days if you can. It is completely normal for kids to react to new siblings with strange behaviours like this. Try to get her involved a bit more 'helping' you (DD loves to bring DS's nappy and wipes etc).

Sticker books are an excellent way to keep little hands busy btw!
