Will you be patient mummy?

Answer: no

DS age 8 has developed a very monotonous droney sort of speaking tone. He is bouncy and bright and interesting and actually he doesn't speak slowly but my God it is painful to listen to!

He isn't lacking in confidence when he speaks.

I did the same when I was little and my Dad pulled me up on it to such a degree that it got worse and I was afraid to utter a word for fear of ebing criticised.

I so don't want to make DS feel like that but it needs addressing as it was also alluded to in his school report.

Any ideas? he has quite a deep voice too.

He starts sentences with an animated "guess what?!" or "mummy!" but then the rest tails off as if into a black hole (with a deep echo).

I wonder why it has passed from you to him? How has he picked it up or is it somehow genetic?

I don't do it now though.

Can you gently coach him a bit and help him to realise how difficult it is for people to listen to patiently? Without making him feel wrong?
I know it's easier said than done.
