My ds, 8, says this too but not all the time - "thief" comes out interestingly!

I'm not bothered by it as he can say it right and I have other fish to fry.

You can point it out to his class teacher, its quite common for them to do extra help for particular kids with pronounciation issues, some kids in my dc's class do a little group each day, with targets etc.

My DS had the opposite problem, but I didn't worry too much. He eventually noticed himself and asked for help - I think it sort of clicked when his reading took off and he could see the difference when the words were written down. He has been trying really hard and was progressing quite well until he lost his 2 top teeth grin If his reading is up to it, try showing your DS the words written down. It may help him work ut the difference.
