Behaviour/development

My 14 month old is using fewer words than she did a month ago.

Please tell me, someone, that this isn't necessarily a cause for concern. I know it can be, I know that verbal regression can indicate ASD and so on, but my DD seems to be able to understand as well as she did.

I'm really hoping to hear that some of you had children who did the same and speech reemerged, giving no further cause for concern...

My ds did this a few times, usually when he was concentrating on something else new. I would try not to worry, but I know this is easier said than done.

Oh and he only started pointing at fourteen months, let alone talking! It was all a good few months further on for us.

Is she learning to walk, or climb or anything physical? They usually only concentrate on one thing at a time, so if she is learning to walk or anything like that she will appear to 'give up' talking until she masters that and then it will return!

Oh yeah, actually! I use two different harnesses on her buggy, because I've yet to find a single harness that can contain her!

Leonie - DD2 has as yet undiagnosed autistic traits. Am nervous. DD does still use words, though, just fewer.

DS has done this with some things. A few months ago he was saying "I want..." now he has replaced it with "aka..."

Mum said I regressed for a while at around this age, but that was 32 years ago, and I think she's trying to reassure me.
