What books does your 2.9 mth old love?

DS1 is really getting into the whole bedtime story thing and I'm looking for some new books.

Current favourites are:
The Tiger That Came To Tea
The Snail and the Whale
Peace at Last
Some Mr Men
Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny, but other Beatrix Potter stories don't seem to do it for him.

Any recommendations?

My 3 yo loves the old Winnie the Pooh books (my Mum found some in a 2nd hand book store). The short stories are so much funnier and more charming than the bland Disney ones. Ds1 now memorises and quotes randomly from it and it makes his speech sound far more advanced than it really is. The other day when I said to him 'Look - aeroplane!' he replied "I can't, I'm face down under something and that, Mummy, is a very bad position for looking at things." (from Piglet Does a Very Grand Thing)

You did mean 2.9 years right, not months?

Going on a bear hunt is a great book. We have one that has flaps and moving bits.

Yep, years - ooops. Surely no-one reads books to newborns do they???

Thanks.

The Gruffalo - ds1 (2.8)'s most favourite book ever.

DS1 also liked the book Shhh! by Sally Grindley when he was 2/3. It's a great flap book that interacts with your child. I'd recommend reading it first though so you know how it goes.

Where the Wild Things Are much loved in our house
and from same authors as Snail and the Whale, he likes Monkey Puzzle and A Squash and a Squeeze
also getting into some dogeared classics that used to be mine - Paddington Bear very popular indeed. and things like Three Billy Goats Gruff, and the ladybird first fairytale ones (Goldilocks, Chicken Licken etc - ds is 2.3 months so not sure some of these might be a bit babyish for you)
if you are into the digger years, there is a series called things like Dazzling Diggers and Tough Trucks and various mechanically related things that are awesomely popular with ds. although they do tend to drive the narrator bonkers after a while.

Mine all loved poetry, so I got plenty of children's anthologies, modern and older classics. I think the rhythm and rhyme helped settle them down at bedtime too.

Dd3 (2 years, 4 months) absolutely loves Where the Wild Things are. I got Giraffes can't dance recently and she likes that, also Peepo, We're going on a bear hunt, Room on the broom.

Not Now Bernard - he memorised it. I love it too. Agree about A.A.Milne surpassing Disney.

Bear in the cave by Michael Rosen, Dazzling diggers etc. already mentioned have been very popular (off and on) since Christmas. Mr Men books, Duck in the truck by Jez Alborough, Little red train books by Benedict Blathwayt. These aren't all equally popular with mum and dad it would have to be said.
