DS has developed a Midlands accent - what's going on?

My ds1 (3.9) seems to have developed a Midlands accent!

He's only ever lived in Wales - what's going on?!

My DS has a Black-Country-with-a-hint-of-Geordie accent (we've just moved to Shropshire) mainly because he is obsessed with an older boy down the road who comes from Sunderland. It's hilarious! Does he go to nursery and have a favourite friend or staff member with a Midlands accent? They pick these things up very quickly!

Dd1 started to get a really Eastend accent a few months ago, particularly when she sang a song at one of the playgroups we go to. She used to sound like she was at a Cock-erney knees up.

He does go to nursery, but at a school so it's closed atm and it's a welsh school so all locals afaik.

The other lo's at his cm'ers are all local born and bred too - I've no idea where he's got it from!!

Maybe it is a virus, as DS1 has taken on a B'ham accent over the past week or so...very strange indeed

the 2 lads that were on popstars, that present kids tv (mark and someone) have strong midlands accents

Feel old though as I had no idea they were popstars!

It was on BBC2 this week at 8am as I had daily battles to get ds out of the house because he wanted to watch it.

Admittedly we are nearer B'ham here in Worcestershire, than you are in Wales...but I can't think of anyone with a strong B'ham accent, similar to the one he has developed recently.

He's more Brummy! We've got friends who have strong Birmingham accents but I can't remember the last time we saw them!

He only ever watches CBeebies and I can't think of any presenters on there with a similar sounding accent.

Maybe he'll be back to my little Welshie tomorrow!

DD1 talked with a very strong Bostonian accent when she started speaking clearly. I have no idea how it came about. All the family are Scottish and mostly, except for DH when not in telephone voice mode, fairly well spoken.

It was the strangest thing, she was never in the company of children much till nursery at 3.25 and it was well developed by then. She grew out of it fairly soon after starting nursery. I suspect someone in the family was teaching her in secret for a laugh

His childminder will have a giggle at him when he next goes on Wednesday - bet she expects him to be back to his Welsh lilt by now!

Dd developed a very posh southern accent last year. It was down to her teacher at school. She did when she was younger have a tendancy to imitate accents on the TV.
