whingey whinney two year old driving me crazy!!!!!!!

ds2 2.4 used to be so easy going but at about 23 months he dropped his daytime nap and has been gradually getting more and more hard to handle. Even if we go out in the car he rarely falls asleep even though i can see he is tired. Should he still be having a nap at this age.Bit confused coz he also has terrible trouble with his ears so if he's really grumpy and i give him calpol he seems to chill out- but obviously don't want to be over doing the medecine.
