Hi All, Im worried as my little girl does not crawl or walk and she is already 11 and a half months old. She has not got any problems with her hips, etc. When she is on her tummy she shuffles backwards and in circles but thats all! She cannot roll onto her back on her own when she tries to roll from her tummy to her back she just gets stuck!! She can stand holding onto a sofa but wont move or cruise! And when she is in her walker she goes backwsrds nor forwards! What can I do to help her along?

Perfectly normal. She will do it in her own time.

Some children never crawl at all and the average age for walking is about 14months if I recall correctly. Don't worry!

Try not to worry about it. My ds didn't really crawl, just got up and started cruising but not till he was 13 months, then started walking properly at about 14 months.

There's nothing wrong with him, he just did it his own sweet way.

Not a lot I don't think, just giving her plenty of space and oppourtunity to move about if she wants to. She will get there but all babies take differnt routes and different times.

My DD is nearly 16, only start crawling a week ago although bum shuffled before then, has only just started to put weight on her legs and is no-where near standing unaided or walking (or even cruising).

LOL, my DD is 16 months...not 16 years by the way!

My daughter was the same, did nothing until 14 months, then stood up and tottered along out of the blue! I was worried sick but Im used to it now, shes been very slow at talking too. And eating, she still (at 2 1/2) doesn't know how to chew properly and just swallows.
Keep an eye, but all sounds normal to me x

Thanks for all your posts (and Sharkyand george I was a bit confused when you said 16!!! I figured you were talking months not years!!!)

My DD was about 10 months when she rolled over and 11 months when she crawled/dragged herself around! She took her first steps when she was 1.
Your little girl sounds fine, they really are all different, once she gets going you wont be able to stop her.
My DS crawled at nearly 5 months and walked at 10 months, so both my children have been completely different (he is also probably the most active/hyper child I have ever met and she is much more chilled and relaxed!).

My DD is 15 months and has never crawled. She bum shuffles everywhere. She will only take weight on her legs a little bit and is nowhere near standing.

11 months is really still young, she will get there in her own time, I wouldn't worry about helping her along.

DD didn't crawl until 13 months and also walked very late (20 months). I took her to the doctor, but they weren't worried at all because she could bear weight on her legs - which it sounds like your DD is doing already.

What's normal is surprisingly wide - but I still used to get quite upset going to meet my friends, when their babies were way ahead of DD, already standing when she hadn't even crawled yet. On the plus side though, she was so much more sensible when she did get going, that we didn't have half the problems with her that the younger crawlers and walkers did!

DD only started crawling at 13 months.. and has only just started pulling herself up at 14 months. There probably isn't much you can do to help, except continue to give her the opportunity to crawl by being on the floor on her tummy.

If she's weightbearing and holding onto sofa, she's making progress, although it seems very slow to you! I can't wait for DD to start walking either!

I wouldnt worry, my DD didnt even weightbear until 20 months and still walked by 2.

She has low muscle tone but

a) that was noticeable
b) if your DD is weightbearing and standing already I HIGHLY doubt she has it.

I REALLY wouldn't worry! Not all babies crawl and it sounds like she will just start walking around the furniture and then walking sometime soon.

This could be my DD - almost exactly (she will be 1 on 2nd July). She can roll on to her tummy but not back again (!). She sits really well and has started to sort of shuffle around on her bottom. I think she is almost off on the crawling front (just needs to bring that second leg back from a sitting position IYSWIM!). Like your little one, she has been weight bearing since about 5 months and is happy to stand holding on to things and "walks" with me holding her hands. My DS was the same (he never crawled but walked at 13 months) so although I did panic with him, I am more relaxed this time around! Hope this helps!!

My DD didn't crawl until a week after her first birthday. She took another few months to cruise and has only started to walk on her own in the last couple of weeks and she is 2 next month.
She was checked out at about 18 months and there is nothing wrong with her apart from a slightly weak ankle.
It was getting to the stage that I couldn't imagine her ever walking as she flatly refused to even stand on her own, then suddenly one day she just decided she wanted to and has been getting better and better every day.
If your DD is standing holding on to a sofa it sounds as though she is completely fine. My DD didn't do that until she was about 18 months old

When I was worried about DD not crawling/walking/being mobile at all the HVs just asked 'is she sitting?' Erm, yes. They were happy with that - she didn't weight-bear at all until the day she decided to pull up to standing at 14 months.

Average age for baby girls walking is 12 months - so if OP's little girl got up and walked right now, she'd be early, not late!
