what age do you stop using a pushchair?

I still use one for DD2, she is 3, but I don't use it much now, just if she is tired. I think I have used it about 4 times in the last 6 months!

So glad someone else has asked this. Have been meaning to post this for days. My DS is 2 and a bit and is now beginning to - ahem - protest when I get the wheels from the boot. It's a nightmare crowbarring him in. A quick tickle to the midriff does it and he then screams his protests all round the shops.

We went cold turkey on ours when ds was three and expect to do the same for dd. A lot depends on the child's stamina and attitude

I'm trying really hard to get dd to do without now - she's 3 next month. It's going quite well.

The reason I asked is that dd (2.3 yrs) has started wanting to walk everywhere but is soooo slow sometimes its easier just to strap her in to get somewhere. I suppose its a good idea if she is tired on days out etc as she does sometimes still ask to be carried.

My ds is 3 soon and I still use his, if I'm going into town trailing around shops. Also use it for days out when we will be walking a fair distance.

Depends on circumstances.

DS1 hardly went in a pushchair beyond 26 months. (22 month old gap, big child, and my back was not up to pushing a double buggy!)

DS2 regularly went in a pushchair up til the age of 3. But then he started afternoon nursery sessions at 2.5, and couldn't cope with the LONG walk home at the end of the day. So went back in a pushchair until he was almost 4 when it fell to bits!

Stopped using it for DS1 at 3 when DS2 was born. DS2 now 3.5 and still take him to school in it in the morning - it's 15 minutes to DS1's school and another 15 minutes on to his (of my brisk walking) and we just couldn't get him to school on time otherwise; DS1 starts at 9 and DS2 at 9.15. But he always walks home from nursery with me and usually walks to pick up DS1 (unless he wants a nap, in which case I let him fall asleep in the buggy!)

Dd was 2 and a bit when I stopped using pushchair - but I was on maternity leave with ds then, so had seas of time and could afford to take half the day to get to the corner shop..

dd was three in september and she dropped hers about three months ago. I encouraged ehr to walk be letting her take a doll out in a pushcahir so she had to walk. She still whimpers a bit, I don't drive so we do a lot of walking - but mostly she is fine,

iam glad some one has been asking that question because my little boy has just turned three and loves walking but he is to slow so i just like him in the buggy because it is quicker but what is the answer what age should they be out of a buggy

As early as possible; started cutting down with dd1 at just over two, when I was pregnant again. Am expecting to have chucked the damn thing by this time next year when dd2 (now 20 months and showing an admirable hatred for it too) is two and a half.

Claire I don't know if there is a 'right' answer - nursery asks parents to stop bringing buggies when they're 3.

I'm hoping to have a new littlun by the time DD is 3 (or there abouts) and would rather she wasn't in it then (although I am planning on slinging the next one more). She is very independent now at 21 months anyway, so I don't forsee a problem.

Not used one regularly for well over a year - dd is 3 1/2 now - but occasionally she'll want her buggy, partly out of insecurity and partly laziness, if we're out shopping or she's unwell.

Ds1 was out by 2.5, but only used it rarely from 2, and planning on something similar with ds2. Really don't want to get a double buggy when no3 arrives, and ds2 will be 22 months.

My dd is now 2yr 7 and I only use the buggy for shopping - and I need it to preserve my sanity! Tried putting her on a lead but had to let her go to pay for something so she decided to roll across the floor of the shopping centre - on a Saturday afternoon. Don't remember ds being like that! Also, aren't buggies great for hanging the shopping bags on? When I did Christmas shopping minus kids I ended up having to do a couple of trips back to the car with the bags.

DD will be 3 at the end of April and hardly ever goes into her pushchair now. It is a 15 minute walk up hill to our local high street and I do sometimes shove her protesting into it for the sake of speed and expediency but she is soon out of it and I then use it for pushing the shopping home!!
New baby is due in 4 weeks time so he will be commandeering it then anyway - I am thinking of investing in a buggy board although will wait until the birth to assess whether it is actually needed or not.

Cut DS use down drastically at about 2.6 although he was still using it very occasionally. DD was born when he was 3.3 and he has been in it maybe 3 times since and probably two of those were on long days out on holiday and once on the way back from village show held in field about 1.5 miles away on a v. hot day in August after having walked around field for 2 or 3 hours. Last summer when I was on mat. leave he used to walk home from nursery - 3/4 mile uphill - after a full day there quite happily. Although there was a certain dragging effect on the side of the pram

I had considered getting a buggy board but it was honestly not necessary for us.
