How do you mean normal? All my children love being cuddled - the oldest is now at secondary school, but she still needs hugs. What is it that is bothering you about a 17-month old baby liking cuddles? Or is someone else suggesting it is not normal? .

her peers are usually off playing dd does go off and play but often comes back for a cuddle and kiss and shes a bit soppy i guess.

I'm jealous! I would be thrilled if my 15month old would let me kiss and cuddle her all day!

It's not abnormal. It depends on the child.

Some children ard cuddly and some aren't. Enjoy it while it lasts

she always has wet lips and when she kisses you you end up civered in salivia!
she is teething though.

its like youve been slimed!

are you serious? yes normal don't worry ..it's terrific

am very not keen on Mums being advised their child needs to be "socialised" at a year old, and people who start mentioning "clinginess"

she sounds like a sweetheart

My DS is like this - he's 2.5 now and although he will go off and play at playgroup, he did it much later than his peers and he still comes back for a cuddle every so often.

He loves his cuddles, I love it too!

Awww my DD has always been like this. it is so lovely. She is 2.2 now and says "I need cuddles" then just embraces me. It is one of my fav feelings ever.

Mine are 4 and 7 and still need a cuddle or to sit on my lap occasionally

I love it when they need one! Best of all is snuggled up in bed at the weekend.

(and I don't mean at 3 am thanks ds)

Who on earth comments on a 17 month old not being independant?! What the hell do they want??

Jeez, they just aren't allowed to be babies anymore, are they?!

Report
spottyzebrahasthelurgy · 24/10/2008 17:48

well i keep being told shes not a baby anymore shes a toddler.

and toddlers aren't allowed to cuddle their mums?

silly sausages, they don't know what they are burbling about

imagine turning her away when she wants to give you a cuddle and a kiss ..telling her she's too old for it

don't fret, don't let these criticisms stay with you at all, they're not fair

They only want to cuddle their mums for such a short time - soon enough they'll be great big teenagers who just grunt at us, so I'm getting all the cuddles I can while I can!

And if anyone calls DS a Mummy's boy or clingy I'll lamp 'em.

DS is 18 months and we've noticed him become a lot more cuddly/lovng in the last couple of months, things like wanting to sit on your knee when having a story read (used to run round the room), cuddles, cuddling his toys (they just used to be thrown/chewed) and in the last couple of days REAL KISSES - pursed lips and everything

My daughter's two and she loves a cuddle and to sit on my lap. I'm storing it all up against the day when she yells 'I hate you! I never asked to be born!'

Report
nellieloula · 24/10/2008 19:16

oh she's still a baby - enjoy it! MY DS was never into cuddles at all as a baby but once he got to 3, was suddenly slightly more interested - thank God! Luckily DD is a snuggler. Don't wish it all away so much - blink, and next time you want a cuddle she'll be going out
