DP has 2 tattoos on his arms and has been talking to dd about this as she noticed them when she was in the bath with him

Anyway last night she pointed to a mole on my leg and asked if it was a tattoo. I told her no

She then asked if she could have a tattoo shock

I was gobsmacked....told her "no and that they where horrible"

Was that the right thing to say?

Any other advice

Please please please promise me she wont go out and get one when she is a teenager sad

buy some Tattoo transfers from Claires Accessories and apply liberally! All toddlers love tattoos!

i'd have just said no, children can't have tattoos.
I wouldn't have said they're horrible, because then you're saying that her dad is horrible (ok, you aren't literally saying that, but it's how she may well take it)

lilymolly Wed 15-Oct-08 21:26:48

Well her dp is horrible wink

yes there is no need to tell her they are horrible

DD is often saying "Can I have a dog?" and I always say "Of course darling! When you've got a job and bought yourself a flat."

EnchantedWithEdwardCullen Wed 15-Oct-08 21:27:55

hmm

'they are horrible'...

thats YOUR opinion.

Shes 2 FGS, why are you worrying about this now?

My son told me he wanted poo on toast for tea today ... I didn't lecture him on the dangers of poop eating, just rolled my eyes.

They say ALOT of stuff, she didn't mean it

and if she gets to 18 and ends up like Kat Von Dee, who cares... she'll still be your daughter hmm

HER DP?

I would worry more about her having a DP than a tattoo at the age of 2 tbh

Say "Not for 20 years my sweet!"

FWIW my mum made no secret of her dislike for tattoos and although tempted and all my friends went and got them (and most are regretting the 90's chinese symbols as they have grown out of that particular phase )grin I never did get one myself due to all the inbuilt conditioning about them from early years. So it not necessarily the case if you say no she will rebel in years to come smile

lilymolly Wed 15-Oct-08 21:32:07

Oh for goodness sakes will you lighten up everyone smile

Was just shocked at her asking for one thats all

Agree need to chill out a wee bit

Not convinced that I like even the wash off tattoos on toddlers blush

God does that make me a terrible smug mother shock

Gettingbiggernow Wed 15-Oct-08 21:35:54

I'm not keen on transfers on toddlers

and even less keen on those henna ones on holiday as I have heard absolute horror stories about those scarring the skin through reaction/allergy shock

Toddlers skin is just beautiful as it is - get them a new bead bracelet from Claire's instead smile

EnchantedWithEdwardCullen Wed 15-Oct-08 21:35:56

No it makes you sound like a twunt.

AnarchyAunt Wed 15-Oct-08 21:36:25

Just say no. As parents of 2.7 year olds have to do 3,500 times a day - ponies, kittens, lollipops, 'carrys', jelly, car keys... just add tattoos to the list grin

morningpaper Wed 15-Oct-08 21:37:21

oh they will LOSE the beads

mine always have tattoos all over their big fat bellies

they love 'em

lilymolly Wed 15-Oct-08 21:44:12

Twunt?

I take it that was not meant to be a nice comment enchanted?

Apologies for being a tad PFBish- I am sure by the time dc no 2 arrives it will be covered in stick on tattoos wink

googgly Wed 15-Oct-08 21:51:42

I get stick tattoos for mine instead of sweets. Healthier and more fun.

lilymolly Wed 15-Oct-08 21:52:30

good point googgly

kittywise Wed 15-Oct-08 21:55:50

say no, what else?
