why is it some children HAVE to eat everything innappropriate they can, and others never do it?

DS (3.5) NEVER put anything in his mouth he didn't need to. He never posted anything. He never fiddled in drawers. POnce told no, he stopped opening cupboards.

DD (13months) is a monster. I jsut found her in the garden eating a rotten apple. She eats pebbles, grass, leaves, cigarette butts (one the beach), a dead cockroach (to be fir she must have spat it out fairly fast). She constantly goes in my bedside table no matter how mny times she is told off. She posts stuff. she puts things in bins (hence she only owns one shoe). aaaaaaaaaarrrgh. I think I may go mad. I'm worried she'll eat something in teh garden and I won't see it. Will rotten mouldy apples do her any harm? She'll have a constitution like a bloody horse if it doesn't kill her!

Both of mine are like your DD. I thought all kids were like this. They grow out of eating stuff but mine haven't grown out of touching and messing with stuff they shouldn't.

Suggest you keep a close eye on her when out in the garden, until she understands that some things aren't meant to be eaten.

Suggest you got lucky first time round!

DS1 put everything in his mouth - except food obviously which he still seems to have a big problem with , DS2 never out anything in there although he does suck his thumb (does that have anything to do with it?)

DS3 doesn't put things in his mouth but fiddles with everything (he currentl has all the saucepans out on the kitchen floor)

now DD -the eater, also sucks her tthumb. DS (the non eater) used to have a teddy bear to suck at night, and never had anythign during the day...

DD was not a happy b/f baby, it didn't go well for us, but DS wasvery happy being B/f and we both loved it.. a link??? prob not!

Hi - my 13m DS is just the same

If it's not nailed down it's in his mouth first, then posted. At the moment he's particularly fond of gravel, leaves, baby wipes, shoes and remotes (if he can get his sticky little mitts on them!)

Had a period of tearing my hair out, but tend to go for the "if it won't kill him then let him get on with it.." approach now - am just hoping he grows out of it before too long.

Garden stuff is a worry though - have to have eyes in the back of your head there

We are past that stage, but you remind me I was quite disgusted but the things DSs would put in their mouths: "Spit it out!! It's a fly!" Once I caught DS1 eating the window sill, on closer inspection I saw he had done it before, when we moved out of that house we had to pay for the damage

ds is 4 1/2 and he still puts things in his mouth, yesterday it was a 1p coin, it drives me crazy.

My 2 are exactly the same.Ds1 never put anything in his mouth,but ds2 is the complete opposite.So far he's tried eating cat food,cat litter,grass,soil,cotton,post it notes and will pull leaves off any plants that he happens to crawl past and stick them in his mouth too.He even crawls around all day with toys hanging out of his mouth.

Ds1 also likes to post things in the bin.
The day after my last birthday I wondered where all my cards were.He'd 'posted' them all in the bin and of course,was as pleased as punch.

DD2 and the bloody NTL TV card thingy that goes in the digibox!!! The amount of times I have had to fish it out of the DVD player And the TV will not work without it...
