Please help! My back can't take it anymore!!

Help!
My 9mth old hates the pushchair! I'm not saying i can never get him in it but not for long before he starts to cry. I've tried toys, i've tried comforters, I've tried putting something with my smell in with him, i've tried bribery - bottles and rice cakes. He starts crying and he doesn't want distraction he just wants to come out! he's nearly 11kg so its really hard pushing the buggy and carrying him, and if i'm on a busy bus or weighed down with shopping its impossibly hard and stressful! He doesn't cry himself out either, he gets more and more worked up until he's spluttering, so i always give in, and i know this is a cycle....please help!!!

is your pushchair foward facing?

if yes then can you borrow from a friend one which can rear face? you might find that being able to see mummy and talk to her helps.

My DD didn't like it when i had our pushchair foward facing when she was younger, now she's fine.

What about a sling or baby carrier? Would that be an option.

Sorry but I think if you want your ds to stay put strap him in and let him cry the worst that will happen ;he will fall asleep, do you think you can be the best you can if you get severe back pain? hang on in there it does get better!

had a baby bjorn but he's too heavy for it now! my pushchair had a rear facing car seat clipped onto it for first few months but he's too tall for that now. have let him cry but he's so SO loud! people start asking whats wrong! live in london so always lot of people on buses when i'm travelling, feel so embaressed!

You could try a Hippychick Hip Seat instead of a carrier. It isn't totally hands free but it is better than having a bad back. I used mine from time to time with my dd (who also wasn't overly fond of her buggy) and she loved being carried around/could see things from an adult perspective etc. Mine was about £30 from John Lewis I think. HTH

borrowing something like this might help, i've got a mamas and papas pramette

the reason i suggest borrowing is because if it doens't work then at least you've not spent a fortune, i guess you could try ebay

Right then, lets see, I understand you feel emberrassed, but, who the hell cares what they think, its you who has to deal with it, all they haqve to do is get off the bus!!!! Please don't spend your time worrying what other people think, you need to make your life work for you and if that means that some people want to get off the buss one stop earlier then just be proud of yourself for getting them fit and probably saving them from an eaarly heart attack (sorry just had enough of bloody spectator know it all mums!!!!!!!)

h thankyou! i've been thinking of buying a hipseat but ideally i would like to not carry him so much! i will definately try to try having him face me!

in addition to the 2 in 1 there are pushchairs that have handles that swing between the front and the back - my friend has one so can be foward facing aswell as rear facing not sure of the make though. Maybe put a plea out on mumsnet!!

crazy and confused, i like this attitude and i have it mentally but i just feel so responsible for subjecting people to maybe a half hour screaming bus ride! thing is, even if a take him out people are loath to get up and give me a seat! i know i should leave him in to learn. now he crys when i put his coat on to go out! it all just makes me want to stay in!

the worst is in a supermarket or any indoor place! outside i guess i should persevere more even though i can feel the stress bubbling up in response to the cry!

not sure what conclusion you came to but someone is selling a mamas and papas 3 in 1 pram on mumsnet this pm for just £15 might be worth nabbing!!

I know you don't want to carry him so much, but I carry ds ( 19 months and 13 kgs) everywhere in an ergo, It is so comfortable and leaves me hands free , and I keep recommending it, there are a couple of sites that do hire of them. might be worth a try as your ds is still so young ?
