My ds is 5 months and is starting to teethe. The problem is that I can't get him to drink his bottle! I have tried mixing a rusk with his milk as he usually loves that but he won't have that either. He really needs to drink some water and I can't even get him to drink. He's not even taking the breast which is highly unusual! A little while ago he did a poo but it was really thick and dark. He really struggled to get it out and it was upsetting him. He hasn't pooed for a couple of days! I can only get him to eat a couple of spoons of the rusk and milk and then he screams. I've tried calpol and bonjela. I'm really worried about him now cause he hasn't had a full bottle for almost a week now.

does anyone have any ideas of how I can get him to drink or eat? I feel so sorry for him he's so unhappy!

rub cold flannel round his gums put edge in freezer and wipe round few times a day its instantly relieving and will toughen gums up

put bonjela on maybe 10 mins before a feed and try little and often and calpol regualy if in obvious discomfort although for theething i found baby nurofen much more affective calpol seemed to do nothing

you can get ashton and parsons teething powder its herbal so can be used along with other stuff it settles any stomach discomfort

hope he feels better soon

oh and check his mouth just to make sure no white coating on tongue that isnt milk if it stays there when rubbed could ahve bit of thrush of the mouth my ds didnt eat at all when had this just a thought everything was to painful drinking eating

so if it looks bit furry and doesnt come away when you wipe it could be thrush anti biotics worked from first day and by the 3rd he was guzzling normal again

all you can do is amke smaller bottles and feed little and often in the mean time

Don't worry - My DS was the same as this when he started teething. I was totally stressed out by it as we on hols in NZ and it was really hot so I was extra worried about him not drinking anything. I took him to the doctor in the end, who said that they can survive on a tiny amount of milk a day and once the tooth as has popped through he will drink and eat again and not to worry too much. After about another 2 days, he did just that, the top of the tooth popped through and the next day he drank bottle after bottle to make up.
