Is this a *weird* response to telling your child you're expecting a new baby?

My son is 4.8 and because I'm so sick atm, we decided to tell him I have a baby growing inside me and that's what's making me unwell.

"You're joking..." he replied. "Actually, I made a little baby out of clay and put the chemical in it that makes you sick and put it in your nostril while you were sleeping and it travelled to your tummy and now the clay baby will grow."

Who knows about child psychology? Sophable? Is this too weird for words or absolutely normal? It has freaked me out a bit

Since he's a boy Ithink that's fairly standard. They do use fantasy to deal with reality though so it makes perfect sense to take a fantastical view of things.

Perhaps its his way of being involved at this early stage? i.e. he put the baby there so its ok.

My ds is 5 and very excited about his new baby due in 4 weeks, but does say some very odd things sometimes!

Similar to ds3\s version of how he got in me. I ate him then he climbed out my nose, then he went back in my nose to my tummy, then when he was ready to be born he chopped his way out with a light sabre.

When I was pregnant with ds3, ds2 was convinced I had Postman Pat in my tummy.

A pregnant friend of mine was told by her lo (4) that babies come from Jesus and raw fish!

Ds1 (at about the same age) informed me that when he had been in my tummy (I was pregnant with ds2 at the time, hence many many coversations about pregnancy, birth etc.) he used to "climb up and look out of your eyes, Mummy."

i asked my DT's if they wanted a brother or sister (they are 3.8), Dt1 said brother called Jack and DT2 said "NOT A SISTER!!!!" I asked why and he said because sisters don't share.....

BUT that isn't to say it's weird or not normal. My DS is currently obsessed with when he was in my tummy and talks about it a lot, including recently telling me that he had toy cars and a trumpet to play with in there.

Your DS's description is after all a bit like what happens... he's probably gathered some confused details from overhearing conversations etc.
