Is this a *weird* response to telling your child you're expecting a new baby?

(Namechanging regular here)

My son is 4.8 and because I'm so sick atm, we decided to tell him I have a baby growing inside me and that's what's making me unwell.

"You're joking..." he replied. "Actually, I made a little baby out of clay and put the chemical in it that makes you sick and put it in your nostril while you were sleeping and it travelled to your tummy and now the clay baby will grow."

Who knows about child psychology? Sophable? Is this too weird for words or absolutely normal? It has freaked me out a bit grin

i thought you might be sophable 'til you namechecked her wink. doesn't sound too off the wall for a small boy....

objectivity Tue 19-Aug-08 20:34:11

Since he's a boy Ithink that's fairly standard. grin They do use fantasy to deal with reality though so it makes perfect sense to take a fantastical view of things.

Sounds like he's re-telling his version of a fairy story!

Don't fret

It sounds alright to me too. Very imaginative lad you have.

A bit of imagined involvement and control over everything maybe???

<scrabbles round for Psychology 101 hat.... gives up>

He sounds fine grin

stroppyknickers Tue 19-Aug-08 20:37:27

Hilarious. Is it a being in control thing?

WendyWeber Tue 19-Aug-08 20:39:52

Does he know how you <ahem> make babies?

CantSleepWontSleep Tue 19-Aug-08 20:40:40

grin

<Now ponders which regular has 4.8yr old boy and could be pregnant>

Perhaps its his way of being involved at this early stage? i.e. he put the baby there so its ok.

My ds is 5 and very excited about his new baby due in 4 weeks, but does say some very odd things sometimes!

jimjamshaslefttheyurt Tue 19-Aug-08 20:50:04

Similar to ds3\s version of how he got in me. I ate him then he climbed out my nose, then he went back in my nose to my tummy, then when he was ready to be born he chopped his way out with a light sabre.

When I was pregnant with ds3, ds2 was convinced I had Postman Pat in my tummy.

sounds about par for the course to me!

muddleduck Wed 20-Aug-08 11:45:28

A pregnant friend of mine was told by her lo (4) that babies come from Jesus and raw fish! grin

SorenLorensen Wed 20-Aug-08 11:48:41

Ds1 (at about the same age) informed me that when he had been in my tummy (I was pregnant with ds2 at the time, hence many many coversations about pregnancy, birth etc.) he used to "climb up and look out of your eyes, Mummy."

Boys are weird grin

my mum when pg with my sister (i was 6) asked me if i wanted a brother or a sister - i replied 'well i'd really like a hamster mummy'

your ds sounds like he has a fab imagination grin

jamescagney Wed 20-Aug-08 12:07:56

ha ha no longer chunky. I asked my dd (2 and a bit) would she like a brother or a sister, she said a monkey!

ImnotMamaGbutsheLovesMe Wed 20-Aug-08 12:10:23

Sounds fine to me. grin

Congratulations!

EyeballsintheSky Wed 20-Aug-08 12:14:03

Strange but fine

Now...who are you?

Neeerly3 Wed 20-Aug-08 12:19:19

i asked my DT's if they wanted a brother or sister (they are 3.8), Dt1 said brother called Jack and DT2 said "NOT A SISTER!!!!" I asked why and he said because sisters don't share.....

CouldYouWouldYouWithaGoat Wed 20-Aug-08 12:21:11
