Lying flat in pram - for how long?

Hiya,

I have a quick question. I have one of these 3 in one travel systems and my son is 10 weeks old. I was wondering how long I should keep him lying flat in the pram element of it before moving to say using the carseat clipped into it? He seems really like when we go out in the carseat bit as he can see all around him, when I have him in the carrycot he can't really see anything. When I go out I see a lot of babies in their carseats but I am worried about hurting his back etc.

Thanks

I think as long as he's not in the car seat for too long then I wouldn't worry about it. Whatever he prefers really. I think the manufacturers usually say no longer than 2 hrs solid.

Okay so if he can't be in the car seat for more than 2 hours how do we drive anywhere?

I thought (first timer here!) that I had him in the pram bit for so long, then the car seat bit for so long and then moved him into the buggy bit when he could sit upright unaided.

God you'd think I'd know about this

i kept both mine flat in pram until 6 months and then switched to pushchair.

i only used the clip on car seat if popping into a shop or for pre-school run.

when they're little they aren't supposed to go in the carseat for long periods.
if you were doing a long car journey you would stop now and then to get out and lay baby down etc etc.

I think as long as your not pushing him around in the car seat for too long then it's fine. They should ideally be lying flat. I think DS was about 4/5 months when I put him in the buggy bit. Just went straight from the pram to buggy. Car seat is just in case you don;t want to disturb baby if asleep in the car then transferring to pram. HTH!

You stop after 2 hours and get him out for a wriggle and stretch. I liked dd to have the opportunity to lie down when she wanted to sleep - pram had a bit you could prop up when she wanted to sit up (with a couple of blankets squished around to support her). More space to wriggle! I only ever used the clip on car seat thing for very short things, like traceybath did.

i was advised a half hour max for certain car seats when not being used for actual journeys

i never used the car seat attached to the travel system. DS was lying flat until he outgrew the carrycot part of the system and then i just reclined the pushchair fully so he was almost flat but with the head-hugger for extra support
