Is it normal for my toddler to throw a screaming hissy fit EVERY time i take something off him?

For example, so far this morning, we've had the bread knife (climbed up on the table to get it from where i foolishly left it last night) and the salt cellar (probably not dangerous in itself but I can do without a visit from SS because ds has salt poisoning!)

Both times (and every time, really) we take something off him, he throws a maHOOsive strop! He gets really really angry with us. I think it's normal but dh is concerned and wants me to ask the collective wisdom of MN!

God yes. You just have to ignore the screaming and try and distract them with something else.

And now he's sitting on the dining room table saying, "Down. Down."

Yes!! Down!! So get down then you strange, puppy-like creature!

I really wished I'd taken a picture of 'Baby With A Bread Knife'. He looked exceptionally cutely murderous. Although, I suspect it may have heralded a visit from social services...

DD1 yells like a banshee if you take something away. And she ONLY wants dangerously sharp objects...and will move furniture 50 times her weight to get a them. Last week she had one of DPs chisels (casually left on table) and I went for the distraction technique. I yelled..."look, look a sheep..in the garden, ba ba ba..." She dropped the object then spent at least 15 mins crying and shouting no....cos there was no sheep.
Don't lie to the little darlings....you get found out
