toddler hates bed!

i've just moved my 2 yr old from her cot to a bed and she hates it!
she refuses to stay in it (unless i stay with her)
she used to go to sleep fine in her cot (it's a cotbed, so have just taken the sides off) she has the same toys/pillow and a lovely new fifi quilt
last night i left her (thinking she'd get back in when she was tired) but she ended up falling asleep standing up at the babygate and did not sleep all night!
i don't know what to do.. can anyone help me.. please!!!!!

I'd put her back in the cot and try again in 6 months, myself... (but I've never used a cot, so maybe there's some really good reason to stop using one at 2?)

why did you move her into it xoxox? Just because thst could have some bearing on whether you stick with it or go back to the cot.

I'd put her back in the cot.

i put her in the bed because she was climbing out of the cot, and i was scared she would hurt herself!
she would lean over the bars, then let herself drop onto her head.. i was worried she would damage her neck!

ah well I can see why you did it. If you are worried for her safety then you may have to stick with it and gradually get her used to being in her own big girls bed. My DD went right off her cot so I put her in a bed and although she loves it she will not stay in it unless I am in the room. Its a pain and it means bedtime lasts about 30 minutes whilst I stay with her while she gets sleepy. I am gradually withdrawing leaving her for longer and longer periods of time (popping out of the room to get all sorts of things, and then coming back in to reassure her) she is slowly accepting being on her own).

onwardandupward what did you use if you didn't use a cot?

We've always co-slept with little ones and use mattresses on the floor so noone ever falls more than 6 inches out of bed (and onto carpet).

oh right how old were they when they moved from the mattresses on the floor to a proper bed?

nappyaddict · 06/07/2008 23:07

also how did a mattress on the floor work when they were crawling?

er... we're all still on mattresses on the floor, although the location of the mattresses and the personnel on each changes as people grow older and new people come along...

How does a mattress on the floor work with crawlers? Well, they crawl onto it really easily
