my 7 1/2 month old always seems to topple backwards because his nappy (or trousers) get in the way???

Oh my ds used to do this. He's 7 and half months now and sits beautifully! I found that sitting him naked allowed him to get his balance abit better. Had a few spring showers if you see what I mean!

However, I think him being able to feel his bottom on the floor more and actually see where his legs needed to be helped a bit. He sat brilliantly after about a week of me doing this when he was 6 months old.

It might not have been the clothes or nappy that was making my ds flop though, they take time to learn how to steady themselves and stay sat up for prolonged periods.

Give it a go, can't do any harm, ds loves time without a nappy on anyway!

I've heard real nappies can slow down crawling (and am convinced that this is some urban myth put about by Pampers et al.) I've never heard any comments about nappies impeding sitting though. In fact, I would have thought all that cloth or paper would make a nice little bum-sized cushion. Just out of interest, what kind are you using?

Cloth does not slow down crawling or walking - total nonsense.

He'll learn how to balance in time. Good for strengthening core muscles if he has to compensate.

Somehow, all the babies born before disposables (30 years?) managed to learn how to sit, crawl, stand up and walk so I don't think it can really impede development.

I have noticed that close-fitting jeans over a large nappy slows DD down.

If so surely all kids would have the same problem - and as a result it wouldn't be problem.

Real nappies are bulkier - but are better for their hips (or so I heard).

Not something to worry about.

They all topple a lot cos they have crap balance and are learning to do stuff.

Funnily enough, I remember worrying about the same thing though.

Just make sure it's not on too tight so it's not cutting him in half when he sits

DS had disposable nappies, sat at 7.5 months, crawled at 8.5 months, walked at 15 months.

DD had cloth nappies, sat at 6.5 months, moved (semi bottom shuffle semi slither) at 10.5 months, walked at 15 months.

Don't think type of nappy made too much difference really.
