Is this a stammer?

My DS who is 2.4 and an able talker for his age started saying "um a um a um a" in the middle of sentences a few weeks ago. He's not tripping over words apart from this - it's just that there are an awful lot of "um as" all of a sudden. I'm paranoid that it's due to recent family problems but have looked up old threads about stutters/stammers that say they're not stress induced. Probably just having a neurotic moment and I know I should be glad his speech is otherwise good. (The other thing he currently says all the time is "I want....I want ...I want!) Would be glad of any advice. x

My ds2 used to say 'um' a lot when he was learning to read. He may be working out what to say.

this is totally normal-sometimes their brains work faster than their mouths. I started a thread like this a few years back about my ds-and was heartened to raed that it is common-and nothing at all to woryy about

thank-you both, 'brain working faster than mouth' sounds about right. Good to have some reassurance!
