My 10mo DD only wants crisps

We are trying baby led weaning, she will eat other stuff, but it's hard, and will always want crisps. She seems healthy and full of energy, so prob eating enough. She has been teething recently so just giving her whatever she wants. Be nice if she ate more other stuff. She is still breastfeeding a few times a day and will also have some formula. Also what portion sizes should I be expecting her to eat at meals? Thanks!

The Caroline Walker Trust have produced this useful guide which gives an idea of portion sizes, complete with photos which you much find useful. 10 to 12 months is from page 77 Smile

TBH I would be giving am such a young child crisps, there's so many other things fir her to try.

There's a Weaning Section on MN too which is usually useful Smile

Where does she get crisps from? Our 14mo eats anything he can see, so he'd get that too but we have none so he won't.

They are super salty and very bad for kidneys so I'd be extra careful about those. Forget calories, that's secondary but the sodium intake I'd worry about.

How does she even know about crisps?

They are very high is salt, and a pretty crap food.

Thanks for the link jinglejohnsjulie, that's the sort of thing I'm looking for. Out DD is teething and has become pretty fussy and I don't think eating enough, which is why we have the baby crisps, she is also breast feeding a lot more. MW gives some OK advice, but was looking for more info like this.

My DD was BLW after turning out to be a total spoon refuser.

What sorts of things are you offering and what does she eat in a typical day?

What on earth are baby crisps?

Just don't give them to her, don't eat them around her, don't let her see the bags, or just don't have any in.

We offer loads of stuff, dried and fresh fruit pieces, cheese, toast with peanut butter, porridge, Lentil stew, mashed potato, egg beans, hummus and bread sticks, oat cakes, rice cakes. She is mostly refusing being spoon fed, seems to be wanting to do stuff for herself, but doesn't eat lots and throws a lot of stuff on the floor. Makes the dog happy at least! The baby crisps are those organix crisps etc.

Not eating much and throwing stuff on the floor is pretty normal at this stage. If you want to encourage her to eat a bit more, you can start offering food before a BF.

My DD took a good while to get used to relying on food to satisfy her hunger.

That's reassuring thanks Jingle. Update from today, DD is eating better, we are feeding milk after solids, so that seems to be some really good advice, and she is eating better.

Baby Crisps veggie straws etc are a nightmare, mine too has come to 11 month and wants them all the time. You feel guilty if they don't eat so think well at least their eating something. Gone in the bin now if he won't eat his fruit or whatever I've given him he misses out on snack time. He actually throws the fruit on the floor and I can tell he's waiting for a few veggie straws. Easy to install bad habits not so easy to get out of them 🤦‍♀️.
