When does it get easier?

Hi everyone,

I just wondered if anyone could share when their experience of having a newborn baby got easier. My baby is 6 weeks old and seems to cry most of the time she is awake. It's also so difficult to get her to sleep!

In your experience, when did it start to get a bit easier?

Its gets both easier and harder in different ways all the time. Sometimes its just a matter of surviving the tough times!

I definitely found around 12 weeks a turning point with both my children. After that, it got easier with every milestone. At 6 weeks old, they can't stay awake long before getting overtired so lots of napping is good! The newborn days are tough but they're honestly over in the blink of an eye when you look back later x

Thank you, that's really helpful! I'm trying to encourage naps as much as possible but she really fights it and then gets so grumpy and overtired!

My first baby was like that. He wouldn't settle in the carrier either but slept great in the pram or car seat so I went out and about a lot! My second baby (now 5 months old) loved (and still does) falling asleep while feeding then snoozing in my arms and having a quick suck whenever he wakes... He'll nap for hours like that. Probably not teaching him good sleep habits but it gets me through day to day 🙈

My DD is 7 months and it’s just got harder but in different ways.. she does have reflux though.

That being said, when she was around that age the only thing that calmed her down when she was overtired was white noise - still works great and neither of us can sleep without it now Smile

The newborn weeks are such a sleep deprived blur I can't really remember!

But getting evenings back is a big step. I managed to get both of ours into a 7pm bedtime (mostly) at around 8-9 weeks.

After that.... 5 years?

I’ve got no advice OP but just wanted to say that I could’ve written this myself - DS is 7 weeks and we’re finding it really difficult. Hope it feels easier for you soon Flowers

How are you found op?
My first baby was like yours, crying all day and up all night. She had colic and reflux and I remember asking the same question. It is SO hard, especially when you know people who have babies who seem to settle so easily.
It got so much easier around 4 months when the crying would be less and she slept in longer periods.
She is now 18 months and I have honestly found it easier and easier since that 4 month mark. Obviously there are other challenges, but she is so entertaining now and such a good sleeper.
