Hi guys,
I was wondering has anyone tried giving to their baby sma althera?
It's the 3rd day now and my baby seems to be worse ? Crying a lot more- inconsolable, nothing helps at all . Has anyone else experience this ?
My little one is currently just over 7 weeks and we've got prescribed the milk due to potential CMA

Thanks in advance
Brigita xx

SMA Althera is a hydrolysed formula which means that it's still made with dairy but the proteins have been more broken down than normal formula milks.

It's probably worth speaking to the GP and asking fir a completely DF formula although they might be reluctant to prescribe it and it is more expensive.

I'd also video the baby screaming so that you can show HCPs.

Yh I'm aware of it . It seems like my baby might need completely diary free formula but the doctors are still telling me to give gaviscon with the formula and see if that improves? Now I've reported many times that baby has gotten worse and they still telling me to stretch out time?
Unsure what to do in this case... it's just sad that no one is taking this seriously , they think that we're new time parents and don't know how to sooth a baby . Crying for 8 hours. , showing signs of discomfort , pain and unsettling is really upsetting to see as a mum :(

Thank you for replying to that post x

You have my every sympathy as my son had tongue tie and I can well remember those screaming sessions, and the implications that we were exaggerating or being dismissed because we were FTPs Thanks

How much formula has he had today? He should be having 2.5 floz per pound in weight in 24 hours. If he's not had that and is still bottle refusing and screaming, I'd go to A&E.

if you've not read it already, this article from Allergy U.K. on CMPA is very good and worth printing out and taking to any medical appointments with you.

It might also be worth reading the NICE guidelines. Thanks

Oh bless you ! We had that checked as well But we're seemed to be okay in that area. I hope your little one is much happier now 😊x

And yes I have read the NICE guidelines and looked at each CCG prescription guidelines for CMA. It seems like we're doing everything as parents , trying to see if alternative treatments work but haven't had any success . We've had like 6 appts so far with the gp but it seems like they're trying to brush us off . I've actually videoed my little ones behaviour and will send it to the gp as evidence .

My little one is feeding fine . He's on the 50th percentile , consuming 120 of formula 8x a day . Now we thought we might have been over feeding him, so we've reduced the intake to 90ml because the doctor has said he's taking in much . He showed apparent hunger cues and crying even got worse. So we've continued with 120ml
