Hi,

I need some advice, my 6 month old is on the 99th cent and I am a little worried. He has 5 bottles a day at 8 oz each. Started trying him on peas/carrots etc once a day also. He weighs around 20-21 pounds. He was 8 pounds at birth.

My HV is useless and doesn’t answer the phone but I’m just a little worried he is too big for his age.

I get a lot of comments about how big he is, that he has rolls etc. I did just think once he starts moving he will drop it but I’m just a little worried by the comments.

Do I need to drop his feeds? Or just leave him be and happy.

Appreciate any advice :) thank you x

My ds was 21lbs when I started weaning him at 23 weeks. I wouldn't drop milk until he's taking a good amount of solid food. His weight should even out as he starts moving around more

DD shot up over lockdown and is also now around the 98th centile OP - she's also just been diagnosed with CMPA by the doctor who also weighed her and plotted a growth chart as we are a bit rubbish at weighing her at home (on the home scales with DH holding her) - she was born at 8.5pounds on the 86th centile.
The doctor is not at all worried, she says that they will keep an eye on it and continue to plot her weight but they aren't concerned and definitely not to cut back on food etc.
I have noticed she is a bit slow to hit her gross motor skills milestones - she's 9 months old and isn't crawling (she gets around by rolling and shuffling backwards and pivoting) she's quite keen to crawl though - she also rolled at six months and took a while to be a competent sitter (but can't get into a seated position without me helping) and she can bear weight but can't stand unaided or pull to stand. I put that down to being a big, long baby (people also comment that she is big) as her fine motor skills and verbal skills are pretty on track.
I really wouldn't worry - I hear most babies slim down once they start walking and getting lots of exercise

Is he long as well OP?

My DS was 91st centile for weight and 99th for height at that age. He was never even a tiny bit chubby, no rolls on him!

It didn't last, he's been roughly on the 60-70th centile for weight since then which I think was where he was at birth.

Also children generally fill out in width before they grow up in height so next time he has a growth spurt he may look thinner.

I love baby rolls! I'd just have to cuddle him if I saw him with his chubby tummy!

I knew a girl who was 9 months and HUGE. Big in her face, arms, legs, everywhere had rolls and rolls. Even her front bum. They went away for three weeks on holiday and whilst there she learned to walk. You wouldn't have even known it was the same child when she came back, she was thin as a rake

Don't worry x
