6 month old with extra leg crease

Hi everyone. The Health Visitor was out last week and noticed an extra crease on my wee mans leg. She said it can be a sign of Hip dysplasia. She referred him to GP who checked him over and said she was going to refer him to orthopedics to have them checked. Hes 6 months. She didnt think they would see him because it's only an extra crease and no other symptoms. But we did just get an appointment for him to be seen. Has anyone been in a similar situation where there has been a good outcome, I'm now worried sick.😭 xx

Surprised they've referred you on just for an extra leg crease. Did your doctor examine him, did she say she thought ligaments were loose or anything. I read about the extra leg crease when my toddler was a baby and worried about it as he had an extra crease. Now he's 2.5 and running around like a loon. Hope everything goes okay for you

@Rubyroost thank you for the reply. The GP did examine him and couldn't see any other problems other than this extra leg crease. But of course all I've done is google and worry ALOT.

Well my kid had an extra leg crease and I googled it and never went to doctors. I think you have an over zealous hv and I'm surprised your gp has referred you based on a leg crease and no other symptoms. Likelihood is everything will be fine.

I was in your position when my DD was 4 months old, I noticed an extra crease right at the top of her leg (which when you Google is the worst place to have one and it definitely meant she had hip dysplasia!) I even had a thread on here, under a different name somewhere.
She had a scan and all was completely fine! I wont tell you not to worry as people told me not to and I still did. But chances are things are absolutely fine 🙂

My baby was born breech and they've cancelled all of the scans which check baby as they're not running the clinic. All breech babies are checked because they are higher risk. Apparently due to following public health England advice they are only scanning high risk babies. So I'm surprised that they are scanning for a leg crease. I'm seething at the inequality of it all as I know quite a few breecb babies have been scanned at other trusts, so no idea why mine can't do the same. It's likely hell have to have an x Ray now when we finally get scanned, which will be after the important 6 month mark.

Just an update. We had the xray this afternoon and a check up and they had no concerns. Such a relief. Thanks for the replies.

Hello, did they check your baby for abdominal ultrasound? My baby is 6 months old and she has the same extra crease on her right thigh. Dr. Is sending us for abdominal ultrasound and recommended to do every 3 months. Please advise. I am super tensed.

Hi @PhillyMom14 we just had an xray. It showed no concerns. The hip joints and sockets etc were all growing normally. They did a physical exam and had no concerns. They just said some babies can get an extra crease with no concerns. Hes not a big baby but they said it could also just be some extra fat and he would grow into it. They discharged us and wont be seeing him again. Xx
