I have noticed in the last few days that she is starting to smell a bit whiffy under the arms at the end of the day. I think she is too young to wear deodorant, but need some advice. She baths daily and always wears clean clothes. I don't suppose it would be noticeable to anybody else but I am a bit worried in case this is the start of puberty although I know I may be over reacting there!

I am a newbie so feel free to point me to other links if this has already been done to death.

Thanks!

Was going to start a similar thread myself. My DS is nearly 7 and have noticed similar with him. He has a bath every day and clean clothese every day. Wondered whether or not to let him have a squirt of DP's deodorant or buy him one?

Maybe just try a cologne designed for children? My DD1 got a presnet of a nice one from Zara

Otherwise, something very natural from the health shop; definitely steer clear of anti-perspirant!

You can buy deodorant wet wipes, if that helps. And if its any consolation, its quite normal for them to start getting a bit smelly at that age!

I didn't know you could get deodorant especially for kids - will google it.

Sazisi - sorry if I sound a bit thick but why steer clear of anti-perspirant?

thanks all for such quick replies

Glad to know it's normal at that age, just thought it was a bit young that's all.

I did think to try one of those crystal type ones you can buy as I think an aerosol probably wouldn't last long. I can imagine her squirting everything in sight!

Sorry I just found this, saw an article on This Morning last week with Dr Chris and from what I remember he said not to give the child (think it was a 4 year old) any deodrant, look at the childs diet, could be onions or somethink similar, sorry I can't help 100% as I wasn't fully concentrating at the time.

This happened with my dd at about the same age and ds is now 7 1/2 and has started to smell too. They both use a crystal deoderant and that seems to work well and it lasts for ages.

local health shops and holland and barratt sell good deodorant that don't contain aluminium - they dont' prevent swetting, they just mask the smell a bit and don't contain any nasties.

Welada has a really nice lemon deodorant that I have used in the past and I'm sure it's OK to use on kids. It's just essential citrus oil. Here's a description

Weleda Citrus Deodorant is a long lasting, effective deodorant with a fresh, tangy citrus fragrance which is suitable for both men and women. Odour-eating essential oils counteract unpleasant body odours without inhibiting normal skin function and without leaving any sticky residue.

This Deodorant is free from aluminium salts, phthalate, synthetic fragrance, colour and preservatives.
