Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'm a mum to a little boy who turned one yesterday! I'm just after a bit of advice regarding walking. Currently he does bum shuffling on the floor and goes into crawling position to grab his toys and books. My mother in law visited yesterday and mentioned he should be walking by now. I'm a first time mum and I do get really anxious sometimes. I'm now feeling really bad and keep thinking it's my fault for not doing enough tummy time?

I just wanted to see what other mums / dads had to say? If anyone's babies started walking at a later stage? Thank you.

happy birthday to him for yesterday! can he stand up whilst holding onto something, OP? The advice is not to worry about them not walking until they hit 18 months, so you have a while yet!

Hiya, thank you so much! Yes he can hold onto the sofa and stand on his tip toes whilst I hold him from the waist. My health visitor also said the same as yourself, thank you for the reassurance!

Omg I absolutely wouldn't worry about him not walking when he's just turned one! He'd be in the early side if he was and as another has posted they usually tell you not to be concerned until they are 18 months. Mine was 15 months. It can all happen very quickly when it does happen you'd be surprised so I think your MIL is getting a bit ahead of herself there. Always helpful having other ppl tell you your child is behind isn't it!! I'm a first time mum too and have had to battle a lot of those insecure thoughts so you're not alone. If he's bum shuffling he's headed in the right direction you'll see x

Morning, thank you so much for replying. It really helps hearing from others, I feel a lot better! Honestly the time I've spent having anxiety over the silliest things and having a family who constantly compare you to others doesn't help! Thank you again ☺️

I really wouldn't worry yet. Ds was 17 months, hadn't shown any signs of walking and then off he went!

My baby turned one last week and from NCT and pregnancy classes I know 9 other babies all born within the same 2 week period. Only 2 are walking. Neither is mine! Hope that helps reassure you!

Yes that really helps, thank you all for the replies. I've just learnt to let go or at least try to let of my anxieties and not dwell too much on others comments. Thank you once again ☺️
