Glue ear/behavioural issues-advice needed

Hi, my son is 20 months old and has undergone a hearing test which confirmed both ears were congested, meaning he has glue ear. He has been given a hearing band to wear but I’ve yet to notice any improvements.

He is 20 months old and has not said 1 word at all, he makes lots of sounds-some babbling and some strange/unusual tones. I’m so worried that it’s more than his hearing. Really hoping others have had similar experiences and can offer some advice on their child’s personal development with having glue ear.

I’ve been looking into autism symptoms and watching videos and he does some similar things to those mentioned. I should also point out it was his nursey who noticed his hearing issues at around 9/10 months as he didn’t, and still does not, respond to his name.

I’m at a loss what I should do, given the current situation relating to covid-19 his hearing test (whilst wearing the band) has been cancelled.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙂

How is his non-verbal communication? is he able to use it to effectively meet his needs and share interests with you? at 20 months verbal communication presents just a tiny fraction of their 'communication toolbox'.

Hi, to be honest if he wants something he will pretty much just go and get it or take my hand and bring me to what he wants. If it’s a biscuit he will get the pack and bring it to me to open. Would you be concerned with this type of communication? He’s my first child so I don’t really know what is deemed as normal and what isn’t?

That sounds really good, exactly what he is meant to be doing :)
