Baby poop

My breast feed 7 month baby does not seem to poo infrequently. He usually poops once a week. Although once it goes to 6 days I usually give him a little orange juice and that gets him going As I’m scared of leaving it any longer. But this seems to be a pattern now. Is there anything else I can be doing. I do bicycle legs and he is on two purée meals a day with a little bit of water . So stressed

What was he like before you started weaning? Did he poo more regularly then?

Is he in distress over it at all or does he seem happy enough?

Have you tried him with some prunes?

Hi
She was the same but I thought weaning would increase his bowel movements
Doesn't seem much difference in behaviour
Orange juice works But I just Dnt want him to become dependent on juices

If he’s BF and not in distress I wouldn’t worry. Until you start solids it’s not usual for a BF baby to go upto 2 weeks without a poo.

It might increase in frequency once you up the solids. Have you tried giving him some finger foods along with the purees? Somethings like strips of pepper or grated cheese?

If you are worried about the poo, I’d give him a more varied diet. Unless advised by a HCP there’s really no need to stick to vegetable and fruit purees at 7 months.

The Caroline Walker Trust have produced a great guide which includes sample menus, recipes and portion sizes here.

Once he’s having some proper food, things should improve Smile

First and foremost, stop stressing. It is not unusual for a baby predominantlt breast fed to go once a week. If it is soft or pasty, its fine. Constipation is hard little nuggets. Sometimes the progression to solids takes the system a little time to get used to . As weaning progresse with mainly veg and fruit and a lille carb all will be well

What do you puree? Do you give soft fruit and veg for finger food? Maybe ask HV for advice.
