Deafness in my baby chances?

Hi,
I’m hard of hearing and 3 months pregnant with my first child and I’m worried they may be dead/hoh as well.
I am the first and only the family and have been told this is because both my parents (unbeknown to them) carried the deafness gene.

What are the chances of my baby being the same as me? My husband has normal hearing and has hearing children with his ex.

I think that's something you need to discuss with a specialist, genetics is a complicated business but as you are probably going to be consultant led rather than midwife led? then perhaps you could ask your consultant to find out - I wanted to let you know about the newborn hearing test - its a simple non-invasive test they do with all new borns with 24 hours, now my DD actually 'failed' this test three times, there was nothing wrong with her hearing it just seems that administering new born hearing tests is tricky.

Thank you, I have been reading a lot about it but it’s quite complicated.
Our nearest genetic testing is over 3 hrs away. After sleeping on it, it isn’t the end of the world - I’ve led a normal life and hidden it well (due to my own embarrassment with it) suppose I’ll just have to wait and see with the newborn hearing test.
Thank you.

I just wanted some reassurance that both parents have to carry the gene for it to affect the baby? Not sure how true this is but hoping that is the case or the fact I’ve got hearing loss that there is less chance of me carrying the gene as well?

I think your baby may have it, there is a chance obviousky but you sound like you’ll be a great Mum and there are lots of resources out there like the NDCS.

Do you use BSL too?

Urgh, how frustrating. No I don’t use anything. I only have mild hearing loss, can hear with hearing aid and nobody would know any different.
