Child slapping himself

Hello I wondered whether anyone can offer some advice. Our 20month year old all of a sudden has sudden has started slapping him self when either he is angry. He seems to do it all the time now. It's really heart breaking. He's a normal little boy developing saying new words this is just a concern as how we manage as parents. Any ideas?

Hi @ashton55 my almost 18 month old does this too, and also pulls his own hair and bites his hand sometimes. It's awful to see...but at the moment I'm trying not to worry as I think it might be his way of exploring his emotions? He tends to look at me for a reaction so where possible I ignore what he's doing and try to distract him instead.
