Bored 2yo

Does anyone else feel like this? I have an almost 2 yo who is our only child and we live in a 2 bed flat. All day he's been indoors due to the bad weather. I think he's fed up of his toys and going into each room exploring so I've resorted to putting the tv otherwise he just gets bored and ratty no matter how hard I try to entertain him

Usually if bored in the day we will go for a walk

Do you have the resources to go to soft play or somewhere like that? If not some rainy day activities my almost 2YO loves are 1) moonsand (just flour and baby oil. Google the recipe. Messy but on a hard floor really easy to sweep up 2) playdoh (can be homemade. Again look up the recipe 3) a simple pad of paper and crayons. She also likes to throw a pile of cushions onto the floor and dive onto them from the sofa. There's nothing to stop you getting a cheap small slide or a rideon too (mine likes her balance bike atm and just makes use of the limited space we have indoors) and just having it out indoors if you have the storage. What about making a den with blankets and table/chairs too? It's difficult I know but there are options and you just have to be a bit creative and not be too houseproud Grin Hopefully the weather will perk up soon too so they can get outdoors xx

I can remember it being bloody awful when mine were that age and the weather like this. It is perfectly normal to feel like that, you won't be alone Smile

One thing mine seemed to really like was a carpet picnic. I'd put a blanket down (usually fleece so that you could wash it easily) and put sone things on bowls like cucumber sticks, chopped tomatoes, cheese cubes etc and sit dow with them and have a picnic. Cuddly toys can be invited too.

There is literally a million ideas on Pinterest too. Just search your LO's age and activity.

I guess I feel a bit strange as hubby can be here all day with him and never feel like this as he's such a big kid with our toddler

Totally relate, mine get ratty and annoying when stuck indoors too and it's hard to be the entertainment all the time! A few ideas:

  • balloon party, basically put on some kids music, blow up some balloons and let him go mad
  • get a few bags of ball pit balls and make a ball pit in the bath
  • hide and seek (easiest if you're purposely rubbish ;-)) or treasure hunts

To be honest if it's just occasionally then I don't think the tv is that bad, sometimes I pop YouTube toddler song videos on ours and my too watch them and dance around.

I feel your pain, my DS 3 is the same. I find toys being entertain him but things like this do..

  • look out of the window, play eye spy, count the cars/buses/people whatever you can see.
  • take a jigsaw (those wooden ones are good), wrap up the pieces and put in a bag
  • tea party
  • birthday party with teddies
  • baking
  • obstacle course with cushions, teddies

5 minute mum is a good person to follow on insta.. lots of good ideas!

If he can't do the talking, you do it for him

This weather sucks. But just hold on for spring, w few more weeks.

You probably feel it more than him. Putting on nursery rhymes etc will be a fun way to burn energy off and keep him happy. Also have you got netflix? The Wiggles are a fave in this house.

Playdoh
A little tub of sand?
Waterplay
Drawing
Dry pasta in water and stuff to mess about with.

We've been out today to the park. Soooo cold and my son's cheeks are still pink ,2 hours later. He's now watching you story and playing with his trains. X
