Behaviour of a 9 year old

My (just) 9 year old son has changed his behaviour!.
Background...... he’s always been a nervous child and had/has separation anxiety and gets extremely emotional/angry when he can’t find something or there isn’t time to play with something .he gets very cross if someone at home stares at him or looks at him when he’s not in the mood. He also chooses an extremely limited diet(which he’s got an appointment for)
I tried to get him referred through the school a couple of years ago but it was refused as really his school behaviour is ok apart from needing lots of reassurance .
As usual his behaviour has got worse since the Christmas break but after two weeks back at school he’s still the same if not worse, his teacher says he’s fine at school and he’s chatting about the current school topic which he’s enjoying, he says he’s getting on ok at school
He’s done a child’s anxiety course and we’ve done a parenting course but I’m not sure what to do now? The doctors will say ask school , school say he’s ok !

I think in sone areas you may be able to self refer to CAHMS? Do you think that might be worth a try?
