6 week old fussiness

Think I'm just looking for a bit of reassurance more than anything else, but my 6 week old boy has been really fussy for the last week and a half, usually for hours in the morning and hours again in the evening with a good nap in the afternoon. He cries for the majority of the time he's awake, and when he's feeding he pulls off multiple times sometimes only to scream immediately. Is this all normal behaviour or a sign of something wrong? If all is normal, how long can I expect this phase to last? It's starting to affect my energy and mental state and I don't want it to affect my relationship with him.

Are you breastfeeding or formula? If formula feeding I would say change your formula! My now 5 month old was the same for 7 weeks.. HV said it was colic but as soon as we switched to ready made hipp organic she was a changed baby. Is your straining a lot ? Does he poop at least once a day? That too has a massive impact on a baby's comfort. It does get easier with time but at the time it's real hard I know how it feels. I used to cry whenever my daughter cried because I couldn't help her. Don't beat yourself like I did as it is very tiring.

My Dd had terrible wind at this age. Infacol drops before a feed were a godsend - it helps them bring it up. Also, letting her nod on in my shoulder so she was upright for a while before I lay her down. I used to spend a good bit of time before bed rubbing her tummy in circles and cycling her legs to help things move round. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t, but she always enjoyed the attention and for me, it passed the time for what was otherwise always a difficult evening!
