Babys head control, feel like failure

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on my baby's head control, she is 3 months old, I'm worried her head control isn't as good as it should be and I have no idea what is normal and what is not, similar stories or experiences/advice would be appreciated!

I'm concerned she hasn't got enough strength and still lols her head about a lot of the time, she can hold it when she's in your arms and holds it fairly steady, but lying down she refuses to lift her head much and just turns it to the side and lies there. We have tried tummy time but she hates it so much the minute she is placed on her front she screams! We've also got a tummy time cushion roller thing which she doesn't mind so much but it doesn't seem to be doing much as she won't lift her head much when we place her on it.

I feel quite guilty as from day 1 we haven't been the most consistent with tummy time and with several hospital stays since she was born (she had urine infection and had to stay in, then I had mastitis and had to go into hospital etc), I feel like it's been the last thing on my mind. I'm worried as we have a check up soon with the health visitor and I'm worried what she might say...

What made me realise was I recently went to a baby yoga class with my baby and was mortified at the head control of some babies who were the same age as her or younger and it left me feeling very down and like a failure...can anyone tell me their experiences of when their wee one started getting stronger and how they went about it? I'm struggling to think of other ways I can strengthen her neck and upper body and I feel like a terrible mother that she's still not able to hold her head up like other babies her age.

Thanks so much Smile

Stop comparing to other babies.

Tummy time is a recent invention. Babies learnt to hold their heads up in the past without it.

YOu are not a terrible mother. I don't remember when DS developed head control. He was a bit late to walk but got there eventually. We didn't do 'tummy time' as he hated it. He went in the carrier every day but that was it. You can't really do exercises with a 3 month old, just crack on with life
