7year old with no concept of danger

Please help. My 7 year old is out of control. He keeps putting himself is seriously dangerous situations. Most recently he has left school on his own. Climbed over the school fence into a neighbouring garden and climbed onto the roof of their single storey extension. He runs off with no regard for being alone in public. He climbs things that are really unsafe and seems totally unconcerned about the danger he is in despite me, friends, family, and his school telling him repeatedly. I just don’t know how to get him to understand before he gets seriously hurt one day.

That sounds like a real worry, OP. We're just bumping your thread and hopefully someone will be along with advice very soon.

@CressyStressy what is the rest of his development like?

Do you have any other concerns? What do school say?

How has he responded when you have left him alone, like walking off ahead, allowing him out to play on his own etc. At 7 I don't think him being alone in public is dangerous as long as he knows how to behave. He is probably craving indepence have you tried given him some.

Have you tried him at a parkour club or similar? You might be able to get him to agree to the crazy climbing being at Climbing/Parkour only?

There are lots of other concerns in his development - He is being assessed through the school and GP for possible ADHD now. It makes sense as he displays so many behaviours typical for children with ADHD. On top of being hyper during the day, unable to be still or focus, along with the no sense of danger; he is also having trouble sleeping which is draining us all as a family. We will be speaking further with the school etc to work on ways of helping him. If anyone has experience of a child with ADHD i'd be so happy to get advice as this is all new to me.
