Hiya

My little boy has been eating his solids from 6 months, but I don’t think he’s getting the most off it. He loves the fruity pouches, banana crumble and rice puddings but I am struggling with him eating savoury ones? Any help? Tips?

His normal routine consists off

7am
Bottle 9oz
Wait about an hour and a half then half a jar banana crumble or rice pudding or toast.

11ish
Bottle 9oz
Wait about an hour and a half then pouch off Fruit

3ish
Bottle 9oz
Savoury either from a jar or pouch. (He can only handle a few spoonfuls) although he does like Asda’s savoury pouches but they don’t have a lot off selection and I don’t want him just to stick to the same ones all the time.

7ish
Just bottle 9oz

He has been showing signs off getting bored off the bottles so we want to drop down to 3 bottles. I know 9oz is probs still a lot but tbh he loves his bottle lol he is a tall boy aswell

Any help would be great
Does HV come back out around this time?

36oz of formula is a lot at that age, my 10 (nearly 11)mo has an 8oz for breakfast, 4oz at 3pm and 7oz at bedtime, sometimes often 4oz over night. Sometimes he won't drink all his bottles. They recommend giving them at least 17oz.

I love cooking, so DS has always just had what we have He used to be a milk fiend, but now he'll pretty much hoover down what's put in front on him and has drastically reduced his milk intake himself.

The more you offer the same food, the more he will learn to like it. So always offer savoury before sweet. Have you moved onto the stage 3 stuff at 10 months? DS had a mini coup when he turned 10months, he refused any puree I tried to spoon feed him. We let him feed himself for a bit, but we figured out that he just wanted more texture and now I don't puree anything anymore.

Ringing your HV is a good shout, mine have always been great at helping over the phone. I'm sure they'll send someone out if they can.

Yeah we are on the stage 3 food, I’m not sure if he likes the texture off stage 3, think he still likes it puréed. Well tbh I always end up feeding him just baby food from jars or pouches and never off my plate, i think that’s where I’ve been going wrong, I definitely will start giving him some off my plate and hopefully that works better for him.
Well I’m sure the HV said she would come out about 9months to a year, so hopefully hear for her soon anyway.

Thanks for responding smilestar

I'd keep going with the stage 2 if you think he likes it better. At the moment, I tend to find the DS wants whatever I'm eating! I was eating a babybel while he had his snack earlier (an oatcake and some raspberries, it was a tasty one), he wouldn't stop staring at me until I gave him some cheese. You'll figure out what works, but it might take him a while to get the hang of finger food if he's not as used to it at the moment.

In Scotland, you get the HV check at 8 months and 13-15 months, but I think it's different from England.

I agree that sounds like a lot of formula! My 10.5 month old has been on 3x 7oz bottles for the past month or two. Thinking about reducing his lunch bottle soon. I basically just give him whatever we're having, or we save our leftovers for him. He play with it and throws a lot of it mind you. Maybw reducing his milk will make him more keen for food? And maybe you could offer him some simple mushy food like raspberries or cream cheese? Avocado is a good first finger food.or just let him play with whatever's on your plate and see if he wa he to try it?
