When did your LO start sleeping through the night?

I know this has probably been done a thousand times but thought maybe we could give each other support.

Dd is 14 months and still breastfeeds anywhere from 3-6 times a night. She has one long (2 hr) nap during the day which should be my 'doing' time but instead I am so shattered all the time Sad

Starting back at school next week and DD will be starting at nursery, no idea how I'm going to cope with coursework and studying! Not that I have anything against sleep training but I just can't do it myself, my DH isn't here very often as he works away so can't make him do it either. Please tell me I'm close to getting longer than 2 hour stretches of sleep???!!!

I AM DYING

2 - sorry. Probably not what you want to hear. I couldn’t sleep train either. Make sure you lower your standards re house, etc due to tiredness.
Sometimes I found it easier to manage the tiredness at work, than at home with the baby /toddler. I could absorb myself in work which helped me keep my mind off it, compared to the mundane / staring at the walls part of being at home. So maybe you’ll find the same?
Keep going - and try not to think of all those mums with babies who slept through at 2 months Hmm

DS1 10 weeks (if you class sleeping through as 8+ hours). He was an excellent sleeper as a baby, we had a handful of bad nights in his first year, always due to illness/teeth.

DS2 8 weeks (again 8+ hours) but he's currently 6 months and for the last month we've been having wake ups due to various issues (rolling on to his front and getting stuck, teething). His first teeth have now cut and he slept through for the last 2 nights in a row so fingers crossed he will go back to doing it again!

It's still notable that he has the last 3 nights, at 2.2

First time was about 22 mo, shortly after night weaning.

Have you considered night weaning? Sleep training? There are some really gentle forms. In my experience kids often need teaching to sleep through like they need teaching anything else. Can't be good for either of you not to be getting a decent night's sleep ever.

9 months, when we did sleep training. She seems unscathed.

It's your life, but in your shoes I would definitely be looking to cut down the night feeds. Does she eat well during the day? A 14 month old on a balanced diet doesn't have a physical need to eat 3x a night, let alone 6. Cutting down on night feeds needn't mean stopping breastfeeding and it might help you enjoy your studies a bit more.

That’s part of the issue I think. She’s an absolutely terrible eater. For example she didn’t even touch her breakfast today, had a snack at nursery that her key worker said ended up on the floor. When I picked her up I bought her an Ella’s kitchen fruit pouch and those veggie straw snack things because I was so worried about her being starving. She wolfed both of them down. Lunch will be the same pretty much, as will dinner. I’m so worried about it, at what point do I take her to the doctor for her eating? She refuses to be fed (even stuff like yogurt) so it’s all finger foods. I see some babies her age who eat portions of food as big as mine Sad

How about you try cutting out feeds after midnight so that she's actually hungry at breakfast time? That might encourage her to eat it. I think it's going to be a bit chicken and egg, but if she's getting all that milk at night she doesn't have much incentive to eat during the day, so you will need to try to reset her clock.

I wouldn't worry too much about what she eats during the day for now; if it's just toast, cheese and fruit, whatever. Lots of 14 month old babies are fussy about food. Just try to get her more in the habit of eating during the day at first.

Mine hated being fed. I made her (in fact still do) little fritters with grated veg, eggs, flour and cheese, as they were easy for her to eat independently. Might be worth trying as they are filling and nutritious.

Also, try giving her her own toddler size cutlery: she is about the right age to be able to use it.
