Whiny 8month old

So DD is 8months, nearly 9months. She's never been a 'chilled' baby but recently has gotten much worse. She seems to whine almost all the time at the moment - whether I'm playing with her or she's playing by herself, whether we're out or at home. She sleeps well, eats well and isn't poorly. I rotate toys so that she doesn't get bored. She is teething so I know that doesn't help. She can't crawl so don't know if its frustration.

She usually looks directly at me when she's whining even if DH is in the room. Up until now I usually try to distract her with toys or pick her up. Is this the right thing to do or am I making it worse and should I respond less? Thank you!

She's just a tiny baby, I would just pick her up and maybe babywear if she's happier close to you.

Do what you can to get through it, but definitely being responsive is important. I mean, I'd maybe leave her a few mins to see if she can distract herself/get over it, or obviously if you need to go the loo or do something important then do it, but if she gets upset I would always respond. I sympathise, my DD has always been a 'high needs' baby, she cried most of the time til she was around 7 months old, at 11 months old she already has mini temper tantrums. I think it all gets easier the older they get babies like mine though. I can deal with her tantrumming at not being allowed to pull everything off the bottom shelf of the bookshelf much better psychologically for me than endless hysterical screaming for no discernible reason for hours every day like when she was younger.
