Behaviour/development

Slight autism or just normal sensitive reception child ?

Ds1 in reception, summer born.
Distractible and wants to play all time (sometimes on own for ages with a car or toy) which is normal I guess.
A bit behind peers at school but summer born, can slowly and painfully sound out words. So not keen reader. Often mirror writing (write d like b etc).
Loves drawing and I'd say pretty good at it.
Very bright with abstract concepts and can speak well altho he trips up/stammers when everyone is listening to him.
Gets very angry and uncontrollably tearful outbursts on little things, such what he deems unfair, if dd2 talks over him "i cant hear myself!!" Or "i cant do it!!"
Teacher says he is quiet at school and too proud to ask for help
Cannot have showers, cannot let water touch eyes or will scream murder (hair wash a pain since baby, dd2 is not like that)
Not easy one to put to bed
Not rough and tumble but will fight if pushed
I have to think of more examples

How old is he? and you mentioned that he is "summer born" twice - why is that significant?

If he's in reception and summer born then he's 4. It's significant because he will be one of the younger ones in his class.

@imamearcat ah yes, of course, thanks for the clarification.

Speech therapy?

Did the teacher mention anything else? Have they had their SENCO assess him? Could you ask for an assessment regarding speech and solitary play behaviours?

You can't be slightly autistic. If he is but coping, then he could be higher functioning, but again that's not an official term. It sounds like it might actually just be his speech might be making him self conscious and shy.

Thanks. I mentioned summerborn as maybe it is normal and slow to catch up with peers, which also makes him a bit sad when everyone else seem to be reading the next band etc.

What is Senco? I can raise next time with teacher. I didnt think about speech, alone with him he speaks well when calm. he can memorize song lyrics better than I do.

I don't know much about autism, ADHD or behavioural issues. Only thought that as he gets disproportionately upset by some sensory triggers but maybe he's just sensitive

He can't sit still and will move about me constantly e.g. when reading a story but I assume that is just normal for a 4 year old. He also got in a playground fight with another kid at school but only that one time. I brushed it as a 'boy thing'

Each school has a person who is their Senco. They support children with special needs. They can help with strategies or maybe even suggest referrals if they think there is something wrong. They are not experts on everything, but worth mentioning to your child's teacher that you have concerns and they might ask the Senco to review your child.
