Pretend play

Can someone please give me an idea of what pretend play might look like in a 13 month old? I think my dd is starting but not sure? She feeds food to her favourite teddy and puts the house phone to her ear and when I ask who it is she says daddy. Is this the kind of thing or have I got the wrong idea?

I think it's exactly that. I read that until they're a bit older 'imaginative' play is still quite literal - i..e acting out things they see you/other people do, rather than creating whole imaginary worlds. Toys like a toy tea set and some play food are really good at this age. Sadly my daughter, who is 22 months, has now moved onto the more surrealist stuff and I have to pretend that a shoelace is a rocking horse (?).

Yup that’s definitely the start of pretend play! In fact that’s quite advanced :)
